The fall 2024 BCPS exam will be changing compared to the spring version. The biggest shift in the BCPS exam is the content outline. In the YouTube video below, I outline the important changes and how this may impact your studying. We’ve updated our study materials for the fall exam specifically to ensure that they are better organized in relation to the new fall 2024 content outline.
There are significant changes this year in the Fall 2024 BCPS Exam. The content outline has shifted significantly. Here are some of the important things I discuss in the video in relation to the content outline changes.
- More Pharmacotherapy (GOOD)
- More specifics on topic areas (GOOD)
- Less Statistics (CAUTION)
- Pass rates typically go down slightly (BAD)
- Continuous Testing Model (Unknown?)
- Study Material Updates Fall 2024
The pharmacotherapy section in the fall 2024 exam has expanded which is a really good thing in my opinion. I want to be tested on drug selection and the appropriate use of medications. Topic areas for pharmacotherapy have been better defined. This is a difference from previous content outlines as well. The “A” topics will get the greatest emphasis on the fall 2024 BCPS exam.
- 1A1 Infectious Diseases
- 1A2 Cardiology
- 1A3 Nephrology
- 1A4 Pain Management
- 1A5 Endocrinology
- 1B1 Critical Care
- 1B2 Geriatrics
- 1B3 Pulmonology
- 1B4 Neurology
- 1B5 Emergency Medicine and Toxicology
- 1B6 Gastroenterology
- 1B7 Psychiatry and Mental Health
- 1C1 Oncology and Hematology
- 1C2 Nutrition Support
- 1C3 Women’s Health (e.g., gynecology, obstetrics)
- 1C4 Hospice and Palliative Care
- 1C5 Pediatrics
- 1C6 Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology
- 1C7 Urology
If one section was added, what was reduced? The biggest item on the exam that is likely to appear to a lesser extent is statistics and associated topics. I caution you to NOT rejoice as many pharmacists are likely to do. There are still going to be a significant amount of questions that will be “gettable” if you know statistics. Study this section and take advantage of getting these questions right on the exam. I would anticipate in the neighborhood of 10-12 questions of the 150. These can definitely make or break your exam and will be a nice bonus for anyone who prepares for them!
