BCGP Exam Information and Pass Rate – 2025

The 2025 BCGP Exam information and content outline will stay the same as in 2024. With that said, the pass rates from the spring of 2024 were not very good. The BCGP exam pass rate in 2024 was in the 50s percent range. If you are looking for BCGP exam information and how to avoid failing this exam, you’ve come to the right place! This is one of the most difficult board certification exams and I go into greater detail about why that is in the video.

BCGP Exam Format

I wanted to highlight some of the important information that you should know when planning to take this challenging exam. The exam is 150 questions in length. It is important to note that 25 questions are NOT graded within your exam. My advice is to not get discouraged by getting a few questions wrong early. You don’t know for sure if they will be graded or not. You should do some practice as it has likely been a while since you have taken a board exam. You get an average of about 90 seconds per question so be sure to time how long it takes you to do questions. If you don’t answer a question, you will absolutely be penalized.

BCGP Study Plan For 2025

When setting up a study plan for the 2025 BCGP exam, I strongly recommend looking at the non-pharmacotherapy sections in the content outline first. The geriatric-related knowledge may really throw you for a loop as it has for many candidates. You need to know terminology like elder abuse, neglect, ADLs, IADLs, capacity, conservatorship, and many more! I discuss this in greater detail in the YouTube video I put together for you. We’ve gone through the content outline line by line to ensure that all of this information is included in our study package.

When planning and preparing for the pharmacotherapy section, please remember to focus on your areas of weakness. This is a very broad exam and 150 questions is not a lot given all the potential information you could (or should) be tested on. I typically recommend a 3-6 month study period but I have known plenty of candidates who have done it in more or less time than that window.

Do you have to know brand names? This is a question I get frequently and for the BPS exams like BCGP, you do NOT need to know brand names. All questions are based on generic names.

BCGP Exam Information – Pass Rates From 2024

Pass rates from 2024 remain low. I discuss those pass rates in the video and what I think will help you pass your BCGP exam. It is a difficult exam and you should not feel defeated if you don’t pass it and you should feel very happy if you do!
